About the event

Join us at the Donald C. Tillman Japanese Garden in Van Nuys for a two-hour bonsai demonstration. Learn about the history and practice of bonsai, from it's very beginnings in China as penjing to the evolution of a distinct Japanese style and eventual growth around the world after WWII. Daniel will lecture and demonstrate the art using trees from the Tillman collection.
Led by Daniel Deephouse, an expert with over 40 years of experience in bonsai across three continents, this beginner-friendly demonstration will teach you the fundamentals of this ancient, relaxing and meditative practice.
Guests are welcome to arrive early starting at 9:30 and take a pre-demonstration tour of the gardens, some of which are currently being renovated, and view the exhibition of hanging scrolls.

Entrance to the garden will be free during the event. Please follow the established garden etiquette during your visit.
